BEST of the BEST
A homeowner in this year's parade relied on her and her family's experience in construction and remodeling to put together a dream house.
For years, Nadine Asher poured over floor plans and interior designs, keeping elements she liked, discarding those she didn't. Everyone visiting home number 2 in the 26th Annual Parade of homes put on by the Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association will get to see where homeowner Asher's selections have taken her.
At 3,137 square feet, the two-story Country-Victorian home built by Asher Enterprises should have something to offer anyone who visits.
Entry is into a two-story grand foyer with angled staircase and vaulted ceiling beams. The staircase serves to separate the entry from the living room, which itself is dominated by dramatic exterior views through a wall full of windows and a cultured stone fireplace reaching to the top of the 18-foot ceilings.
The stonework carries into the kitchen, where a stone-enclosed cooktop area features two stoves, a grill and burners.
And outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy strolling the 1,500 square-foot, multilevel, wraparound deck.
General contractor Chad Asher said the components of the home, from the windows to the flooring to the shingles on the roof, were chosen using the experience gained by the families' long involvement in the home improvement business.

"We've been able to see what works well and take all those qualities and put them together in a custom home," Chad Asher said.
Builder Wade Asher said that as the home came together, Nadine Asher and the others realized certain elements in the original plan weren't working as well as they'd hoped.
"That's what happens, and that's how it should be," Wade Asher said. "If a homeowner wants a change, they're spending a lot of money for it, and it should change."
